Band
Elyria Christian School provides various musical opportunities for students. We believe that the musical arts provide a creative outlet and lend yet another opportunity to use talents and abilities to glorify God. In addition, involvement in musical ensembles reinforces qualities such as self-discipline and teamwork.
Beginning in the fifth grade, students are offered a band elective and have the opportunity to learn a concert band instrument. The 5th and 6th Grade Band performs for both Christmas and Spring Concerts.
The JH/HS Band is our main instrumental group and acts as the Pep Band for various basketball games. In addition, the JH/HS Band performs for the Christmas and Spring Concert, graduation, and performs for various events including marching in the May Day Parade.
Choir
“I will sing to the Lord as long as I live; I will sing praise to my God while I have my being.” – Psalms 104:33 (NKJV)
At the very heart of our choir is worship. And, it is our desire to lift up the name of Jesus everywhere we sing. Jesus Christ is at the center of our very purpose.
All ECS students have the opportunity to receive vocal music education as part of our well-rounded academic program. The program covers a wide variety of techniques and music literature, but more importantly, trains students to glorify and worship the Lord Jesus Christ through the gift of singing. The Bible speaks often about singing, so we are committed to proper vocal instruction to train our students to worship God through their entire lives.
Musical Theatre
Involvement in theatre gives students a sense of achievement, fosters a sense of community, and provides students an opportunity to express themselves. Students are encouraged to explore their interest in theatre through acting, singing, set design, light/sound crew, and stage crew.
The technical aspect of theatre offers students hands-on learning of light design, set design/construction, along with other elements and principles of technical theatre. Activities include building theatrical production sets, scene change management, lighting design, audio design, and implementation during productions.
In recent years, performances have included: The Wizard of Oz, Annie, White Christmas, A Yankee Connecticut in King Arthur’s Court, Esther, and Anne of Green Gables.
Visual Arts
The visual arts program at ECS teaches students that being made in God’s image instills each of us with a creative spirit. As students participate in visual art education, they learn the value of expressing their creativity in a way that brings glory to God.
At ECS, Students work with a variety mediums to develop their skills. Mediums include painting, drawing, sculpting, ceramics, and jewelry. Through their years at ECS, students will learn the creative process from the birth of an idea to the completion of the final work of art. The curriculum builds on previous instruction by adding new skills. Each skill level has a more complex set of objectives, and prepares the students for future art opportunities. Students will also have the opportunity to compete in art competitions locally and across the state.
“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.” – Ephesians 2:10
